Preventative Maintenance for your business

For those of you who work in an enterprise business the time to put preventative maintenance for malware and viruses is NOW.   Don't wait until an incident hits to put malware protection throughout your enterprise.  Make sure you have protections and processes in place BEFORE an incident happens.   http://www.cisecurity.org/ http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.aspx http://www.isalliance.org/

Internet surfing.

For those of you using windows most of you probably use Internet Explorer as your web browser.  What happens if the web page doesn't load right, or IE breaks?   My recommendation is to have at least one other browser installed.   For windows machines you can install Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Safari. Mac users have Safari as the default, and can install Firefox, and Opera. The reason it is important is because if your browser crashes or is hijacked you need an alternative to get onto the internet to download something to clean your system.

I'm back.

I've been busy being a father and switching jobs. I'm now a System Administrator at Capital Bank in Raleigh. Father of a 19 month old (going on 3 year old) boy.  I'll be posting some more tech tips, but my focus is no longer desktop support so I won't have as many helpful tips to share in the future.  I will however be posting a variety of ideas, tips, tricks, and tools to help you with your computers and life in general.  See you all soon. --John
